December 6th Game at the Palace

WOLVES 86 OWLS 76

Owsley County gave a great effort but succumbed in the end to Wolfe County 86-76 Saturday afternoon in Booneville. The Wolves used a guard-heavy attack-style offense, and although they could never break away to a comfortable lead, single digits for most of the game, they finally pulled away in the last quarter by virtue of winning that period 32-27.

Owsley placed four players in double figures, with Keegan Herald as the leading scorer with 27, followed by 21 from Brayden Peters, 16 from Jordan McCoy, and 10 from Jarred Napier. Dalton Peters came off the bench to score 2 points.

Three guards scored 62 of Wolfe’s 86 total points. Jayden Hollon had a hot hand from the start and finished with 28 points, 14 in each half. Guard Caleb Creech had 21 points, and guard Jayden Molands scored 13. The center Brady Robinson added 11 points, and Maddox Brown came off the bench to score 10. Cam Oliver finished the scoring with 3 points.

Owsley’s next two games are away. They will play at Red Bird on Dec. 8 and at Buckhorn on Dec. 9. They will return to The Palace for a game with McCreary Central for the Mountain Hall of Fame-designated Glory Road game at 4:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 13.

The game is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Owsley County gymnasium, and the first team to play in the gym was the 1975-76 Owls. They have all been invited to the game, along with Coach Jimmy Ray Bowman and the referees for that game long ago (Henry B. Combs and Tommy Hall). The team they played in the first game was the Pine Knot Dragons, who are no longer in existence. They consolidated in the early 1980s with McCreary County High to create McCreary Central.
