Posted
The Owsley County Lady Owls fell short of victory against Estill County on Wednesday in the championship game of the 56th District Tournament at Lee County, with a final score of 49-36. Both teams will advance to Knott County Central next week for the 14th regional tournament. The Lady Owls will face a winning team from the 53rd, 54th, or 55th districts, while the Lady Engineers will play a runner-up team from the same districts. The drawings are scheduled to take place at Knott Central on Friday.

The Lady Owls managed to keep the game close through the first quarter and the initial four minutes of the second quarter. However, Estill connected on a pair of 3-pointers just before halftime, and built a 25-17 lead.

Owsley remained in contention in the first half primarily due to a series of 3-pointers, including three from Harley Dooley and one each from Kamilla Marcum and Kiley Taylor. Nevertheless, the Lady Engineers utilized a strong second quarter margin, outscoring Owsley 13-6 and establishing an 8-point halftime advantage. Turnovers, including some unforced errors, proved detrimental to the Lady Owls, as Estill converted many of them into points. Notably, the Lady Owls did have a 14-13 rebounding advantage.
