Sandra Kay Gabbard Woods, loving wife and mother went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2023 ater a 3 year battle with lung cancer.
Born May 7, 1959 to Betty Jean and the late Albert Gabbard, Sandy spent most of her life in Booneville, Ky., where she married Gary Woods (1978) and raised two sons: Brian Keith Gabbard who preceded her in death and Nicholas Woods (Lauren Gray Woods) currently residing in Charlotte, N.C.
She is preceded in death by her son: Brian, father, stepfather: George Zambory and two brothers: Keith and Phillip Gabbard.
In addition to her mother, husband and youngest son, Sandy is survived by three sisters: Phyllis Gabbard (Bob) of Lexington, Ky., Dawn Jackson of Lexington, Ky., and Denese Million of Booneville, Ky., in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Sandy worked all around Booneville, sharing her love of cooking and baking, as well as being a lifelong member of the Indian Creek Church. She volunteered her time helping with events and making sure the kids had plenty of candy and homemade crocheted toys.
Funeral services for Mrs. Woods were held Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Searcy & Strong Funeral Home. Officiating the service was the Rev. Terry Sandlin. Burial followed in the Esau-Gabbard Cemetery on Indian Creek in Owsley County.
The Searcy & Strong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
