Margie E. Barker, 98, passed away October 11, 2023 at the Owsley County Health Care Center following a brief illness.
She was born January 17, 1925 in Owsley County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Walter J. & Gertrude Brewer Strong. She was the widow of Ed Gabbard & Bruce Barker. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Booneville First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barker is survived by two sons: Mr. Charles Wayne Gabbard of Atlanta, Georgia & Mr. Aaron Gabbard of Booneville, Ky., a daughter-in-law: Mrs. Homi Son Gabbard of Booneville, Ky., grandchildren: Mrs. Janet Bingham & husband Joshua of Booneville, Ky., Ms. Angela K. Gabbard of Winchester, Ky. & Mr. Randy Gabbard of Hazard, Ky. There are several great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents:Walter J. & Gertrude Strong, husbands: Ed Gabbard & Bruce Barker, son: Danny Clay Gabbard & brothers: Jackie B. Strong & Robert N. Strong.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barker were held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Searcy & Strong Funeral Home. Officiating the service was the Bro. Rob Morgan. Burial followed in the Shepherd Memorial Cemetery in Booneville.
The Searcy & Strong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
