Linda Swango Bowen, widow of Charles Douglas Bowen and daughter of the late Chester Lawrence and Tessa Lee Napier Swango was born in Hazard, Kentucky on April 27, 1945 and departed this life in Winchester, Kentucky on January 30, 2026 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 3 days. She was of the Baptist faith and proudly served her community as a school teacher with the Martin County Board of Education until her retirement. She was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel and was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bowen leaves behind three children, Melissa Smith and husband Rodney of Beattyville, Kentucky, Jason Smith and wife Amanda of McRoberts, Kentucky, and Jami Arnold and husband Billy of Richmond, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Megan Lynn Culton, Cameron Arnold, Madison Arnold Witt, and Megan White; two great-grandchildren, River and Memphis Culton; her former spouse, John Daily Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bowen and parents, Chester and Tessa Swango.
Services held Feb. 3, 2026 at Newnam Funeral Home of Beattyville. Burial in Gethsemane Gardens of Prestonsburg. Newnam in charge of arrangements.
