Kentucky’s documentary, RISING, is now available for streaming on Prime Video, with proceeds benefiting the Team Kentucky Emergency Relief Fund, which assists Kentuckians affected by catastrophic events, including natural disasters.
The 60-minute film tells the story of the strength and resilience of Eastern Kentuckians as they undertake what has been described as the nation’s most ambitious rebuilding effort following the historic 2022 floods.
RISING chronicles the joint commitment of Gov. Andy Beshear, state and local leaders to rebuild homes for flood survivors on abandoned coal mine sites outside flood-prone areas. Eight high-ground communities are now either completed or under construction, providing new homes on higher ground and offering greater protection from future flooding.
“RISING is a story that shows what’s possible when you put your people first, work together and demand a solution that will bring meaningful change, and now it will reach the entire world through Prime Video,” Gov. Beshear said. “With proceeds going toward our Team Kentucky Emergency Relief Fund, RISING will not only inspire people to see what’s possible following natural disasters, but it will also continue to support Kentucky families affected by these types of challenges. I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and even more proud that we can share the resilience and strength of our people through Prime Video.”
The documentary premiered last September at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg. It was later screened in Frankfort, Lexington and Louisville, followed by a brief theatrical run with showings in Elizabethtown, Franklin, Grand Rivers, Inez, Owensboro, Pikeville and Cincinnati.
Proceeds from the film’s screenings raised more than $48,000 for the Team Kentucky Emergency Relief Fund.
To mark the fourth anniversary of the devastating 2022 floods, which claimed the lives of 45 Kentuckians, Gov. Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear recently visited Eastern Kentucky and provided updates on progress at the high-ground communities. Work continues in the new neighborhoods, with two communities already completed.
Beshear continues to encourage anyone impacted by flooding in 2021, 2022 or 2025 to visit HousingCantWait.org and complete an interest form. A member of the Fahe team will contact applicants, determine their eligibility for Disaster Recovery housing and provide assistance throughout the housing process.
