Hospice Care Plus Announces Transition to Compassionate Care Plus Name reflects continued growth while honoring more than 40 years of service

Posted
Richmond, KY – Hospice Care Plus has announced that it is becoming Compassionate Care Plus, marking a thoughtful transition that reflects the full scope of its programs and services while honoring its long-standing commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

“While our name is evolving, our organization’s mission remains unchanged,” said CEO Lisa Cox. “Compassion has always been at the heart of everything we do.”

Since its founding in 1981 as Madison County Hospice, the organization has grown alongside the communities it serves. Originally staffed by dedicated volunteers working out of the trunks of their cars, the organization began by providing hospice services to patients in Madison County and served around 40 patients a day.

As demand increased, services expanded into surrounding counties, and between 1986 and 1989, five additional counties were added. Over time, the organization became known as Hospice of the Kentucky River, reflecting its broader regional reach, and later adopted the name Hospice Care Plus in 1997 as programs and services expanded beyond hospice care alone.

With the addition of the Compassionate Care Center in 2008, the region’s only inpatient hospice facility, the organization further expanded how care is delivered. It also shaped how the community came to know the organization. “We began hearing people in our community refer to us simply as ‘Compassionate Care,’” said CEO Lisa Cox. “That has made this change feel like a natural step that honors both who we have been and who we are today.”

Today, the name Compassionate Care Plus reflects the full scope of services offered. Hospice care remains at the core of the organization’s mission, alongside support for patients, caregivers, and families navigating serious and advanced illness, grief, and loss, as well as caregiver support and community education and outreach.

“This is not a rebrand or a departure from who we are,” Cox added. “It is a thoughtful evolution that honors our history while helping us communicate more clearly who we are today

The transition to the new name will occur gradually over the coming months across the organization’s website, materials, and community presence.
Compassionate Care Plus remains a nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to serving patients and families with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Hospice Care Plus, soon to be Compassionate Care Plus, serves Madison, Estill, Jackson, Lee, and Rockcastle Counties.
