Darlene Fugate, age 79, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on September 29, 2026. She was born on January 11, 1947, in Booneville, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by faith, music, and devotion to the people she loved. Darlene was a Christian and a faithful member of Man O War Church of God. Her church family was an important part of her life, and she found strength and comfort in her faith throughout the years. She carried herself with a spirit that was loving, funny, and friendly, and those qualities touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was also known as an accomplished banjo player, and her music brought joy to many. Whether she was playing for family, friends, or fellow church members, Darlene shared her gift with warmth and enthusiasm. Her talent was matched by the kindness she showed in everyday life, and she will be remembered for the happiness she brought into the lives of others. Darlene is survived by her husband, Burnice Fugate; her daughters, Kimberly Shepherd of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Tracey Noe and her husband, David, of Lexington, Kentucky; her sister, Minnie Smith of Beattyville, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Kayla O’Dell and her husband, Josh, and Aaron McKenzie; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Shepherd and Makenna O’Dell. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory. Those who knew Darlene will remember her as a woman who loved deeply, laughed often, and welcomed others with a friendly heart. Her sense of humor and gentle nature made her a blessing to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
