The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that demolition of the KY 312 bridge over Interstate 75 in Whitley County is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, as part of the ongoing I-75 widening project between Exit 25 and Exit 29 in Laurel and Whitley counties.
The bridge demolition is necessary because the existing structure does not provide the required width and vertical clearance needed to accommodate the interstate widening project. The bridge is being replaced to meet current design standards and allow for construction of additional travel lanes and improved roadway geometry along the corridor.
Temporary nighttime traffic impacts are expected on Interstate 75 during demolition operations:
During both closures, traffic will be detoured utilizing Exit 29 and Exit 25. Law enforcement personnel will assist with traffic control throughout the operation.
In addition, KY 312 over Interstate 75 will be closed to through traffic beginning Tuesday, May 19. Barricades and message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the closure.
KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect significant delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
