Flood Conditions this Morning, Monday, February 17th

Judge Little would like to thank each and everyone that has helped throughout the county repairing roadways for the citizens of Owsley County. 

Owsley County Maintenance Department are out this morning to continue working on repairing county roadways. Please use caution if in an emergency and you have to be out. Do NOT drive through any road that has water running across it.

Owsley County Search and Rescue reported on flood conditions this morning by saying, "Southfork of the Kentucky River is currently gauging at 39.81. It has dropped 3 feet from its cresting point. Everyone please remain extremely cautious if out and about this morning. Do not drive into water thinking you can make it through. Please, give right of way to state, county and emergency personnel. Please be cautious of slick, icy roadways."

Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray has signed an official order to temporarily suspend certain restrictions on commercial motor carriers that will be engaged in debris removal, power restoration, or supplying gasoline, propane, and diesel fuels to areas affected by the forecast torrential rains and flooding.

“Every second counts in an emergency, and this official order gives us the ability to provide for those in need without delay,” Secretary Gray said.

To ensure the safety of the traveling public, carriers must comply with safety requirements and have a copy of the order in the truck cab if operating under the authority of the official order.

There are some Kentucky State Parks open for those displaced by the flood and wintery weather. They are as follows:

- Natural Bridge State Resort Park
- Pine Mountain State Resort Park
