OWLS DEFEAT BOBCATS IN ‘ALL A’ REGIONAL OPENER

by Deron Mays

The weather had derailed the All A games across the state this week with games rescheduled several times but Owsley County and Lee County were finally able to get their game, which was originally scheduled for Monday Jan. 6, played Sunday in Booneville.
Owsley ran out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter behind the hot hand of forward Keegan Herald (8 points), good rebounding and scoring from Chase Pryse, and  balance scoring with five players getting in the scoring column. They increased their lead to 36-22 at the half by nailing three treys in the second quarter and once again getting points from all five starters in the quarter.
Lee played the Owls to an even 15 points apiece in the third quarter with Corey Flinchum carrying most of the scoring. He had scored 14 points in the first half and added 15 in the second half to finish with 29 points but it wasn’t enough for the Bobcats to overcome Owsley’s balance attack of five players scoring in double figures as they went on to claim a 73-55 victory.
Chase Pryse led Owsley in scoring with 17 points. Keegan Herald and Jordan McCoy (who had three treys) each finished with 16. Daniel Caudell, who started for the injured Erik Craft, scored 13 and had numerous hustle rebounds. Guard Jarred Napier scored 10 points, which included a pair of 3’s.
Besides Flinchum’s 29 points Lee’s Riley Hall was in double figures at 14 points. Jared Lucas scored 4 points, Landyn Shelton 3, Jase Osborne 3 and Christopher Thompson 2.
Owsley will now play June Buchanan in Booneville in the second round  of the All A regional Monday at 6:00. The girls will play June Buchanan in the second game at 7:30. Both games will be broadcast on Bluegrass Sports Nation (BSN).
