Local Pharmacist Appointed to State Cannabis Board

Booneville has a say in the future of medical marijuana in the Commonwealth.
The Kentucky Board of Pharmacy appointed local pharmacist and owner of Booneville Discount Drug, Matt Carrico, to a four-year term on the Medical Cannabis Board of Physicians and Advisors.
The appointment will be confirmed by the state senate later this year.
This Board is charged with reviewing and recommending how much medical cannabis a patient can possess, the methods of use for medical cannabis, adding or removing qualified medical conditions to receive medical cannabis, and establishing minimum performance standards and quality improvement metrics for cannabis business accreditation.
“I am excited to be a part of something that can help the patients of Kentucky struggling with qualified medical conditions and am hopeful this can help the state with the opioid epidemic,” said Carrico.
In the Spring, the General Assembly passed HB 829 which required the state to add a pharmacist to the Board of Physicians and Advisors. The board will now consist of seven physicians, two nurse practitioners, and one pharmacist.
The Commonwealth is preparing for the rollout of the state’s medical cannabis program in January.
