A Swift Water Rescue in Owsley County

According to Owsley County Search and Rescue's social media, at approximately 5pm this evening, emergency personnel were dispatched in response to a report of three individuals who had been overtaken by the river current iwhile swimming. The current carried them onto a rock outcropping, where they became stranded.

Owsley County Search and Rescue (OCSAR) responded with SAR-2, SAR-3, two watercraft, and four personnel. Additional support was provided by the Kentucky State Police (KSP), Owsley County Sheriff's Office, and the Booneville-Owsley County Fire Department.

OCSAR deployed one watercraft with two personnel onboard, while another rescuer hiked to the location of the stranded individuals. One of the victims was safely transported by boat, and the remaining two were guided out on foot via the trail.

By 6:30 pm, all individuals and responding personnel had safely returned with no injuries reported. Everyone made it home safely.

This was a successful, coordinated team effort by all agencies involved.
