Virginia Man Takes Vehicle with a Dead Body to Kentucky and Sets Vehicle on Fire

According to authorities, the suspect, David Wayne Stoneburner, took Saundra Lee Moore's body into Harlan County, Kentucky, where he tried to conceal and destroy evidence after a violet incident that resulted in Moore's death.

Harlan County officials confirmed the victim’s identity on Sunday afternoon., and Stoneburner iwas placed in the Harlan County Detention Center where he is currently being held.

According to Kentucky State Police, authorities responded to a vehicle on fire on KY 160, located on Lynch Mountain in the Lynch community of Harlan County. Troopers and detectives discovered a Toyota passenger vehicle off the roadway and down the mountainside. The body of Saundra Moore was found inside.

Kentucky State Police detectives determined that Moore had been involved in a physical altercation earlier that morning with her nephew, 29-year-old David Stoneburner in Wise County. Authorities believe that after the dispute, which led to Moore’s death, Stoneburner took her body in her own vehicle to Kentucky. Police said upon arriving at Lynch Mountain, Stoneburner placed Moore in the driver’s seat, intentionally set the vehicle on fire, and put the vehicle in motion causing it to go over the embankment.

Stoneburner has been charged there with abuse of a corpse and arson.
